Staten Island Waterfront Community Day

12:45pm – 7:30pm

The Sunday program will provide conference attendees with opportunities to explore a number of sites that highlight the role of the New York Harbor and Staten Island's Working Waterfront in the history of the New York State Canal System. The day includes a curated cruise aboard the Staten Island ferry with a chance to meet local heritage bearers and retired ferry workers and a walking tour of the St. George and Stapleton waterfronts with stop offs at Lighthouse Point, SI Maker Park and the Flagship Brewery (includes a free tasting session). The program concludes with a welcoming reception hosted by City Lore, Long Island Traditions and Staten Island Arts at Art Space, a gallery at Urby, a unique new mixed use development in Staten Island’s northern shore. Reception includes a VIP opening of the new Habor Heroes Folklife exhibit and live musical entertainment. Dinner is on your own at a potpourri of eateries, featuring Sri Lankan, West African, Mexican, and Southern Italian coastal cuisine. Highlighting the evening will be a presentation about the the borough's unique Working Waterfront Folklife Initiative. Transportation to and from the Hilton Garden Inn will be provided.
